50% OF THE SEASON TO GO!!!

As we have reached our half way point, a few changes have come to the league. To start with the big one, there is no longer a separate American League and National League, and is now just one whole league. Because of this change, we have decided to add a three team playoff instead of the top two teams going straight to the World Series. Soon to come will be our first ever recorded Home Run Derby and All-Star Game. The captain of first place and fourth place will take on the captains of second place and third place. After first half of games, the Virus sit at 5-1, the Liberators at 3-3, and both the Fireballs and Drones both have 2-4. The Virus are four games away from officially clinching there spot in the playoffs. If there is a tie for any spot at the end of the season, the aggregate score from the regular season will be taken from the two teams that were tied, and the higher score will be the higher seed.

LEAGUE STATEMENT FOR 2020 SEASON

With the league starting earlier than usual, we hoped to have more time to play all of our games. During the final two games of the previous World Series, the global pandemic, Covid-19, broke out and caused our home state of Ohio to go into quarantine. Because of this, we have no choice but to postpone the rest of our season until later on in the year. We do not wish to carry into next year as we did with the 2019 season, but we will be playing all of our games. We have decided to trim 4 teams from the league and only play this season with the original 4 team, the Liberators, Virus, Drones, and Fireballs. Wiffle Ball will be back soon enough! We all just have to stay home, and stay safe!

Virus go Back to Back!!!!

We finally crowned a champion of the Junior #SavStrong season!!! The Liberators took a lead late in the top of the third and final inning, but Sean and Gianni's clutch hitting kept them right there the whole time and eventually lead the Virus to winning their second championship in two seasons! The league is looking to start a little sooner than last season, but there is no doubt the players and teams are getting better and better every season!! We will see you in the 4th season of the Ohio Wiffle Ball League!!!

World Series Thriller!!!

With the Virus (11-3) Defeating the Hawks (7-7) in the ALCS, and the Liberators (9-5) defeating the Drones (7-7) in the NLCS, the World Series was set with a rematch of our inaugural season. Captains Sean Haley (Virus) and Blake Schumacher (Liberators) have been directly involved in every OWL World Series to date. The duo faced off in the first ever Ohio Wiffle Ball League championship which saw the Liberators defeating the undefeated Virus, then teaming up to sweep the Sluggers three games to zero to give the Liberators their first title in franchise history. After the first games that would not be filmed and uploaded, we saw the Virus walk off game one at home, Liberators walk off at home in game two, then the Liberators come up short to the pitching of Sean Haley in game three. The series sits at two games to won in favor of the Virus, as games four and five will be on youtube. We will also see the MVP's of both leagues being crowned before game four. The #SavStrong season is finally getting close to finish it's chapter of the OWL, and what better teams to do it other than the two originals!

The Post Season!

After the All-Star break which saw Blake Schumacher win the home run derby and the American League win the All-star game, the Ohio Wiffle Ball League finally punched out the final games and is ready for the playoffs! In the National league it was the Liberators (9-5) taking the number one seed, the Drones (7-7) coming in at two and the Predators (6-8) claiming the third and final seed. The American League saw the Virus (11-3) take the first round bye, followed by the Hawks (7-7) who won the tie breaker over the Fireballs (7-7) for the higher seed. The Drones will play the Predators in a three-game series to see who will play the Liberators in a five-game series to see who goes to the five-game World Series. The Hawks will meet the Fireballs for the three games to see who will square off against the Virus for the ticket to the championship! Its been another successful year of wiffle ball with an amazing group of players and we hope the final stretch of the Ohio Wiffle Ball Leagues's junior season will be as exiting as every other year!

Almost Half way through!

As of this update there are only FOUR games until the All Star break! Recently a few changes have been made in the management of some teams. Taking over for Gianni and the Aztecs is Jacob Brown. Brown has a history in baseball and is hoping to carry a young team into a deep playoff run. Taking over for Shawn and the Hawks is Caiden Dicus. Caiden has played a few games with us and this kid has been HOT at the plate!! Two very young teams with brand new captains that are easily capable of playing Wiffle Ball. The two players representing the National League in the home run derby and all star game are Brian Haley and Blake Schumacher. Playing for the American League is Caiden and Sean Haley. Those games will either be filmed and uploaded later or streamed live just like every playoff game!!

We are underway!

Sunday saw the 3rd season of the OWL start with the first two games! Sean Haley had to substitute for Zach Eshbaugh and the Fireballs, as well as for Gianni Ciora and the Aztecs. In the game between the Drones and Fireballs, we saw the Fireballs get the win 11-0! Obviously a better start than last season, as the Fireballs started winless through more than half the season! In the game between the Liberators and Aztecs, it was Blake Schumacher getting the walk off grand slam to win the game 8-4! The Fireballs start out on top in the American League while the Liberators stand strong in the National League.

Changes to the league

Drones OWL.png

Late February, we have a few changes coming out of the OWL!! To start the news, we are sad to announce the Pharaohs will no longer compete in the league due to classified reasons for the committee to vote them out. The league will now have an even 4 teams in each league with 3 out of the 4 going to the playoffs! In other news, the team formerly known as the Sluggers has now renamed to the Drones! Captain Brian Haley has been trying to get a name change for a little while now and the team and the league agreed on the Drones. The new schedule will have each team playing 14 games (7 home, 7 away) with every team playing each other twice. The Junior year of the league will be starting sometime around the beginning of April! So soon but yet so far!!! UGH! We are going to try and stream a lot of the games on the Schumacher Sports Network, but the most important/fun games will be on YouTube like the playoffs, all-star game and events, as well as the 2019 OWL World Series! We will also be trying to get some of the big games streamed, like previous World Series matchups, brewing rivalries, and just fun games in general! Ladies and gentlemen, summer is just around the corner, and the OWL is gonna be right there to celebrate it!! We look forward to playing Wiffleball again and we love the summer months! Be ready! this year is gonna be BIG!

Raise the stakes!

On February 16th, the OWL has expanded the playoffs from four teams to six teams! the 2nd and 3rd seeds of each conference will play a three game series to see who will play the 1st seed in a five game series! The winner of both of the five game league championships will play in a five game world series for the OWL Championship!! With the addition of the five newest teams, it only seemed right to give them a bigger chance to get to the playoffs. In 2017, when the league only has three teams, Team Bake and Team Brian played in a three game series, that Blake ended up winning to play Team Sean in the World series and sweep him 2-0. In 2018 when the OWL introduced conferences, there were no playoffs, and the best teams (Sluggers & Virus) went straight to the World series, where the Virus swept the Sluggers 3-0. The OWL is going back to our roots and giving you more post season Wiffleball!!!

Welcome to the Show!!

The first news out of the OWL in 2019 is, once again, ANOTHER NEW TEAM! Led by Jacob Eshbaugh, we give you... The Predators!! Jacob is the Brother of Fireballs captain, Zach Eshbaugh and will be joining the National League. The Predators will begin play at the beginning of the 2019 season! Go Preds!!

At the end of 2018, The Ohio Wiffleball League is getting prepared for the junior season! Along with the original three teams, and the first ever expansion team in the league, the OWL is welcoming in four more teams! we give you the Hawks, Aztecs, Destroyers, and Pharaohs!! More information on these teams can be found in the "TEAMS" tab!

VIRUS WIN WORLD SERIES!!!
IMG_1221.jpg

The 2018 season ended in a crazy race for the post season. The Liberators and Sluggers were head-to-head almost all the way up to the final game, with the sluggers pulling a clutch win to cement their spot in the World Series! The Virus on the other hand, clinched their spot in the world series almost 3/4th of the way through the season! The Virus ended up winning three straight games to end the 2018 championship as quickly as they could! some games were even played in the poring rain! Sean got his championship after being swept in the year prior, and his teammate happened to be the exact same man who swept him in 2017, Blake Schumacher. Schumacher went on to win the 2018 World Series MVP.
